Is Mould making you sick?

Ran, Rain … we’ve had enough of you!!!  Did you know that 1 in 2 homes in Sydney are water damaged? Any signs of water damage has the potential to grow mould and mycotoxins which can have a catastrophic effect on health. Many of these health-related problems come from a mould like allergy causing hay-fever symptoms, cough, wheeze and constant blocked nose especially if you have lived with mould for a period of time. A more worrying concern is the effect of toxic metabolites called mycotoxins released by mould that may still be in your body years after mould exposure.

These mycotoxins can cause Systemic inflammation,  excessive fatigue, turn off the immune system,  Gut imbalance, moodiness and behaviour changes, extreme anxiety, headaches, joint pain, learning and memory disorders, autoimmune disease and cancer as many Mycotoxins are carcinogenic.

Many Mycotoxins affect brain function by inhibiting the breakdown of certain neurotransmitters (especially Dopamine). Mould, Yeast (like Candida) and bacteria (especially Clostridia) and their by-products are neurotoxic and have been linked / correlated to Autism, extreme anxiety, aggression and self-Harm behaviour.

Dr Zoe is currently studying mould, fungal, yeast and mycotoxin detoxification protocols. One thing is very clear… You must first remediate or remove the source of the mould for any protocol to be effective.

To start detoxing mould or mycotoxins first we want to open the detox pathways, bowel and kidneys to help excretion so Get The Bile and the Bowels moving! Use fibre (such as Psyllium husk, Inulin, PHGG) and Prebioitcs to start clearing mycotoxins in bile. Keep an eye out for our Mould detox protocols.

STEPS TO PREVENT MOULD GROWTH

  1. If you get any water into a house Dry the area within 48 hours to help prevent Mould growth.

  2. Be aware of warning signs. Musty odours in the affected area.

  3. Take look outside. Check the exterior of homes and buildings regularly for accumulating ground water.

  4. Remove damaged materials. If materials are wet and can't be cleaned or completely dried, remove them from the building and replace them and replace them (perhaps ozonate them)

Look for bubbling walls, paint being lifted, stains

If your environment has been water damaged:

  1. Inspect & Assess Mould Damage

  2. Contain the Mould

  3. Filter the Air: use INOXA or WINIX air filters

  4. Clean All Surfaces (clove oil, tea tree without water)

  5. Remove or Demolish Mould & Mould-
Infested Materials

  6. Clean or Throw out Belongings

  7. Final Cleaning & Ozone

  8. Restoration

  9. Ongoing Maintenance & Upkeep

Use a building biologist to assess the damage and likely mould issues.
